If you knew that you had seven more days
to live, what would you do? How would you spend those precious seven days?
There is an urgency to change our
perspectives on life now!
Why put off until tomorrow what can be
done today?
None of us know how long we are for this
world.
None of us can be certain that we have
the luxury to put things off till a later time and deep down we know very well
what is really important to us.
Yet we bump along from day to day, month
to month and year to year doing things that we don't really want to do and that
we don't really care about!
We push aside our deep inner longings
with the thought that we should build a career, make money, have a family,
build a home and so on and so forth. In most cases we follow this course simply
because this is what everybody else is doing in some form or other.
The way that we are educated ensures
that we conform to norms and most people
accept these norms and stumble blindly along like lambs to the slaughter...
If we don't take the time to look around
us, if we don't question, if we don't stop long enough to know what it actually
is that we really care about, then it is almost a ‘given’ that our lives will
pass in the fulfillment of tasks that have nothing to do with 'who and what we really are.'

ReplyDeleteHello Lyse! Beautiful post -- and very similar in many ways to the manner in which I trained myself to think -- after immersing myself in the essence of eastern philosophy. I preferred death to living a mundane existence -- and still do. The majority of men/women live lives of quiet desperation -- was that Thoreau? I saw this as a child too and shuddered. Not for me....not for me...and here I am, living. like you, in Arunachala. Though, to be honest, if do I die tomorrow, I will die with a few regrets -- that I could not finish two more novels that are simmering on the back burner, that I was not there to care for my beautiful doggies to the end of their little lives, and to get to know a few more precious people even better....but it will still be with less regrets than if I had chosen the mainstream road to hell....all the very best, and take a look at my blog when you can spare a moment -- miraprabhu.wordpress.com.
